Our Mission Statement: We friends sprinkle seeds of perspective and encouragement to create the world we want to see. We invite you to grow with us.
Friends on Purpose began in November 2006 when long time chums Mary Backlund and Sheila Quinn Simpson had a synchronicity of thinking and decided to pool their talents of art and word-smithing to create the kind of cards they couldn’t find in the marketplace.
 Mary... artist, author of Knowings, motivational speaker, experienced and admired educator in the public school system, facilitator of women’s growth through workshops and quarterly gatherings, and just way too darned fun to play with.
Sheila... author of Apology,Founder of Open Pathways Seminars, inspirational speaker, Athena International Award recipient for community leadership and service, pioneer in Hospice administration, Director of Lake Superior State University, Gaylord Center and confident optimist that her tennis game will still improve after all these years.
The common denominators of these women are strong abilities to laugh out loud, great delight in colors, passionate belief in the power of each life to make a positive difference in this world, and deep desire to be open to direction from the Spirit to make that difference.
They would also like to make a little money so that they can continue to use their talents creatively and bring joy to others...and perhaps make a promotional trip to Tuscany or Provence to surprise their wonderfully supportive husbands and children.
Their company name, "Friends on Purpose", is in tribute to the direction and guidance they discovered for using their combined gifts, and to the fact that they chose each other "on purpose" as friends... because life is just better as a result. They have committed to donate a portion of their card sales to selected worthy non profit causes throughout the year.
